Good Friday to our Woori Youth! Hope you all had another great week. Are you guys getting bored staying at home and social distancing? Hang in there! It’s the best thing we can do as a society in preventing the spread of COVID-19. All this will pass according to HIS will, until then stay safe, and seize this opportunity to get to know God better through His words in the Bible. This week’s sermon is about the Gospel of John 5:30-47. Please take the time to read and discuss it with your family. Don’t forget to keep your mind AND body in shape during the stay in place! Hoping and praying to see you all soon!
It was said that John the Baptist came as a witness to the coming Messiah(Jesus). And in this week’s Gospel reading, we are introduced to more witnesses that testify on behalf of Jesus as the Christ of God.
John 5:36-37,39
But the testimony that I have is greater than that of John. For the works that the Father has given me to accomplish, the very works that I am doing, bear witness about me that the Father has sent me. And the Father who sent me has himself borne witness about me. His voice you have never heard, his form you have never seen,
39: You search the scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about me,
Not only did John the Baptist testify to who Jesus was, according to Jesus, God the Father also is a witness to who Jesus is. No other prophet that God has sent previously has had the power, the glory, or the love for His creation that Jesus has. Herein lies the foundational difference between Christian and Jewish faith. As Christians, we testify that Jesus is The Son of God, sent to live among us, suffer and die for our sins, and was raised in 3 days to sit in everlasting glory at the right hand of God. No prophet has ever been given the privilege that Jesus was given. All of the Old Testament’s writings and prophecies were always about Jesus, the coming Savior, and Rightful King who would rule with justice, mercy, and love forever.
To me, we are all like John the Baptist. We are the ones that must provide witness and testimony to the people of this world until Jesus comes among the clouds and His new Kingdom is established forever on the earth! We do not know when Jesus will come again, but until that day, let us try to live a life worthy to be called His children, a life worthy to be called His faithful, and a life worthy to be called His witnesses! Our mission as Christians:
Mark 16:15-16
And He said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.
Stay safe another week and the countdown continues toward zero hours, when we can finally gather again as a family to worship our One and only Creator, Father, and Redeemer, Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior! May God bless and keep you safe under His mighty wings.
David Kim
